Time to Come Home!

Rhonda and Doug Brandenburg

Rhonda and Doug Brandenburg

We are entering a new stage in the journey that began eleven weeks ago. On Tuesday, September 24, Rhonda was taken to the ER by ambulance. She spent seven weeks in Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital were she had three major life-threatening events, four surgeries, and countless ups and downs. She has spent the last four weeks in Regency of Shelby Township Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She has been doing physical and occupational therapy nearly every day to build her strength and mobility. She can stand and walk some with assistance. She still is not able to go up and down stairs. She has a very long way to go.

Rhonda, you home awaits your arrival!

Rhonda, you home awaits your arrival!

Tomorrow, on December 11, Rhonda will be discharged from the rehabilitation center and will be coming home. We are not sure that she is physically ready for that, but it is the decision that the insurance company has made. We appealed their original decision and received an extension of several days, but tomorrow is THE DAY. She is excited about coming home, but very nervous about what is next. There will be many challenges, and we face many unknowns, but we trust the Lord and know His plan is best.

Pastor Tim Berlin and “The Ramp”

Pastor Tim Berlin and “The Ramp”

We are very thankful for the kindness and generosity of Pastor Tim Berlin and Faith Baptist Church. Pastor Berlin came to our house today and built a ramp that will allow Rhonda to get into the house. Many of you joined us in praying for that need. Join us in praising the Lord and thanking Him for His provision!

Please pray for the transition and for Rhonda’s continued recovery. There will be many doctor’s visits, physical and occupational therapy sessions, and untold hours of work for Rhonda to regain the abilities that she has lost. Pray also for my ability to assist her. Last Thursday, December 5, I had major thumb joint reconstruction surgery on my right thumb to repair a very damaged joint that has developed arthritis. I have been very limited in my strength and abilities. The pain had gotten severe in recent months. The surgery went well, but there is an expected six to nine month recovery time. it will be many months before I have the complete use of my hand. This should be “fun!”

The “Thumb!”

The “Thumb!”

Finances, ministry opportunities, and “normal” life events, are all complete unknowns for us. We would like to thank each of you for your prayers and support during this “adventure and ask for you to continue to pray.”

God is always good. He is only good.
